Product Reviews: Crystal Film for iPhone 3G/3GS

Perfect Fit

The pack comes with a white application sticker... you stick to the front of the iphone and then remove it and it takes off any microscopic or invisible dust particles (PERFECT!!!)
Lining this one up compared to others I have purchased was easy. You don't even know there is a screen protector on it and fits just right!

5 tips for success!

At last - success!!! I've just applied the crystal film with 99.99% - 100% success and am very happy with it. When I first bought the iPhone I had the other type of film, the anti-glare, kindly put on by someone in the Apple store (I WAS offering to spend a lot of money in there!). It was excellent, fitted well, and it looked good but a TINY bit opaque, and it was nice and smooth to the touch. (I think that type of film is a little thicker and can be fitted correctly more easily.) But after a few weeks (last night) I decided that I preferred the crystal film as it was virtually invisible and shiny like glass, and the sensation when touching turned out to be just like glass too. Having originally bought the clear Jacket with films, this came with one of each type of film, so I had the crystal film spare. I applied this fairly successfully and could see how much nicer it was, but I'd damaged it a bit. So today I bought a pack of two crystal films, and experimented a lot with one of them before applying the other, (using my newly gained experience), which is now good enough to leave in place. I've got 5(!) tips, which I think are worth passing on as it's a lovely product when successful - as nice as the cleaned iPhone itself...
In order of importance:
1) Alignment has to be as perfect as possible over the speaker hole and home button hole, so don't let the film drop completely onto the screen until you can see exactly where it's going to lie, and then if you've not dropped it all the way you can correct it. (The film CAN be lifted using a longish piece of sticky tape, but this is fiddly and may leave glue on the top of the film which will need to be cleaned off later.)
2) VERY important too: don't bend the film up at too steep an angle when lowering it. It seems flexible but in fact it's best if it stays almost flat, as bending it more than necessary distorts it invisibly and creates spaces for air bubbles. The instructions just say "let let the film drop onto the LCD screen". I suggest you do this gradually, and look for what LOOKS like a wave of water being pushed in front of the ever lowering film, between the film and the screen. This shows that no air bubbles are forming and that it is going down perfectly. At the last bit you'll need to just let it go. With luck, and if there has been the minimum of handling during the whole process, any air bubble that comes near the end can be pushed out afterwards. (I used my thumb nail with as much pressure as was needed, but still taking care of course.)
3) I also realised on experimenting, that IF it's going to be less than perfectly free of bubble type blemishes at one end, then it's better for that end to be the home button end, as it will be less visually irritating and out of the usual line of sight more of the time than if it is at the top end of the phone. So begin by applying the film at the top end of the phone, as suggested by another reviewer, and not as in the printed diagram.
4) The white cleaning strip works well, but make sure if you use it more than once that you don't start to add dust to the screen. I ended up just cleaning the screen with the cloth for my final go, and it is fine.
5) I've just retrieved the first 2 films from my bin and washed them as per the instructions, as I'd only thrown them away because I thought they were now too dusty, but having washed them they may be useful in the future.
It looks and feels lovely when it's on - good luck!

Truly Invisible

I applied the crystal film and it is truly invisible. It's an excellent product but I have to admit installing it is tricky. I modified their instructions slightly. Here's what I did:
1. cleaned the iphone with a finger dipped in soapy water
2. rinsed the finger and then used it to rinse the iphone
3. wiped the iphone off with a lint free cloth
4. took one side of the pre-installation film and held the other side to "mop up" any dust particles
5. carefully inspected the surface of the iphone looking for the smallest dust particle. The smallest piece of dust will create a bubble under the film.
5. applied a piece of cellophane tape to the non-adhesive side of the film to remove the backing and hold on to the film
6. aligned the film onto the base of the iphone and then let it adhere to the iphone at its own pace from the home button to the top of the phone. Removing the cellophane did create a little bubble but I was able to rub it out.

Voila! I'm pleased with the results which says a lot because I would characterize myself as a perfectionist.

This was the easiest film I have ever installed on an IPhone. No problem with air bubbles or dust. Follow the directions and you will have no regrets.

I have now used both the anti-glare and crystal films on my iphones and LOVE THEM! They fit perfect, they are high quality, and with a little patience and care, can be put on perfectly with no dust, bubbles, or alignment issues. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This product definitely lives up to the hype. For those who say this product is hard to apply must remember that is the nature of sticky films. If you are not careful, you will trap particles under the film. Even though mine was not applied perfectly (I was impatient), the fit is still very good. The film feels just as good as the oleophobic screen of the 3GS and looks just as bright. Very nice product!
